I’ve heard that Homer is a great place to work out of. What’s it like there as far as possibilities to find a job on a fishing boat? What is there to do when I’m in port? What are other options in other Alaskan towns?

I’m a hard worker and have worked in an industry where i was on call 24hrs a day for 6-7 days a week for the past 7 years. I would like to know if there is a way to get information or contacts to get into the commercial fishing industry in Alaska.
The 24hr 6 day a week job i was speaking of was working in the towing industry in the Mojave desert. There aren’t a lot of people that can work 36 hrs straight in temperatures that hit 125 F + every summer. It’s not so much that as it is that I have a lot of heart. I don’t want to do this for the money(i would be lying if i said that the money wouldn’t be nice) but I want to do it to challenge myself. To be able to step off of one of those boats and say that I did something that not many people can do or would even try to do. I have always pushed myself and this seems like a good opportunity.
